More about Make!

What is Make!?
Last year I was making a present for my sister’s birthday and wanted some specific beads to finish it off. I went to my local craft shop to find them and was disappointed by the beads on offer. It started a search that took nearly three months until I eventually found what I was looking for.

I found the beads on an internet site, but had hunted fruitlessly for them in shops, for hours online and by mail order. It wasn’t that the beads weren’t available, it was just that they were hard to find. It got me thinking.

I’m a big craft fan and have tried many different crafts over the years. Whilst I enjoy sewing, paper crafts, jewellery making, mosaics and fabric craft regularly, I’m always ready to try something new and more tempted if the information and the supplies are readily available. What if there were somewhere where I could find suppliers, find products and if I couldn’t find it, what if there was someone there who could tell me where to find it; people who share my interests and also people who are willing to share their experiences of crafts that I’d not tried before – something to whet my appetite.

It certainly appealed to me. This was how the original idea for Make! was born.

Make! is first and foremost a community for people with a passion for craft; a place where they can go to discuss their hobby, share their experiences, share their creative endeavours, garner feedback and reaction and provide a one-stop shop to find suppliers, products, clubs and events.

How does Make! work?
The beauty of Make! is that it’s run by you and its success depends on you. We’ll make sure that the infrastructure is there for you to use the site, but it’s up to you to share your stories, build the directories, make sure that all the best suppliers and products are on the site and in turn, we’ll provide the best environment to grow the site and commit to delivering everything you need to get the most from your craft interests.

Who’s behind Make!?
I’ve pulled together a number of craft experts who are happy to share their expertise and looking forward to joining in and helping drive Make! to create the ultimate craft resource.

First there’s me, Lynda, I’ve been involved in crafts for more than thirty years, as a dressmaker, designer, artist and have taught fabric crafts, needlecraft and soft furnishing.

Marian is full of inspired ideas for children, having spent many years working with under fives, awakening their enthusiasm for craft and starting their creative juices flowing.

Sarah’s been making jewellery for the last five years and will share everything she’s learnt with you, she also has a passion for home crafts and she’s been thriftily perfecting her expertise for over twenty years.

Kate’s our professional artist. She has a new creative idea every five minutes and is always ready with imaginative solutions to your crafty dilemmas.

And if we don’t have the answers, we’ll find someone who does. We’re all keen to ensure that Make! is the community you want; one that provides everything for people who love crafts so that you can have fun sharing your own experiences.
